My career began as a computer operator in the United States Air Force in June of 1986. I was stationed Oversees in Germany, Japan and Turkey where I learned and grew with the IT industry. I did everything from load large 16 platter disk drives to desktop support, punching down cat5 cables and installing LAN lines in new buildings.
After the Air Force, I went to work for NASA at Johnson Space Center in Houston where I started as a System Administrator taking care of security patches, installing memory, software and trouble shooting issues. Then I slide to the right to begin managing websites for several different organizations. The pages were static and very basic because there was really only one platform. Once Mobile devices became smart devices and tablets became popular, we were not only coding for cross browser but we had to start designing for cross platform as well. Our next project was to start collecting data for our sites. Who was our audience, where did they come from, what did they look at. Who sent them, how long did they stay, what device were they using. We analyzed the data using Google analytics and created reports to show where we needed improvements. With this new information we decided it was time to give our audience a voice, so I created a WordPress site, a twitter account, a Facebook page, linked in profile and tied them all together so we could have some two way communication one what the public wanted.
After 14 years at NASA I followed my husband to Ohio and completed a small project for W&SF before working with S&S Healthcare Strategies. I worked with them for over 4 years where I managed a team of 6 developers. We designed, developed and deployed a .net core application using visual studio 2015. The design was centered around creating an application that identifies who you are through an identity server and then serving you what you needed to do your job based on your job functions using a job navigation bar and workbenches.
Now that we have transferred to the Dallas/Fort Worth area, I'm ready for my next adventure.
